Thank you Google for whitelisting me again

About a 1 1/2 month ago, I recieved an e-mail from google stating that my website was a source of Malware. In that same e-mail they give some directions to follow in order to remove the Malware notification. Notification? What nofitification? Well, not only does google send you an e-mail, it also displays a huge warning when you enter my site via google, stating that it may harm your PC. That warning prevents 95% of the visitors to visit my site (also because they make the link to the actual page non-clickable).

Good thing google used an e-mail address that was actually in use (it sends an email to a number of prefixes, followed by your domain (like abuse@idsklijnsma.nl, malware@, etc), otherwise, I wouldn’t have received the e-mail and would never know what hit me.

I think it’s a good thing Google protects it’s users, but maybe they should be a bit less thorough. I still don’t know why they thought my site was infected, but it’s kina annoying that you know that nobody will visit your site if they’re from Google search.

In order to get rid of the warning, I updated wordpress to the newest version, disabled some plugins, installed a sitemap, etc. etc.

And here comes in another face of Google. In order to remove the warning, you MUST have a google account, your site has to be verified, and than you have to request the removal, which, in my case, took over 6 weeks. That’s 6 weeks of no visitors, so no income…

Anyway, the warning is removed, lets see how long it takes to build up the confidence of the regular users again…

What others have to say:

Makes a good story. I can imagine that in future our film-makers will make movies where a good web developer’s life is ruined after an almighty search engine classifies his site as malware distributor. The poor chap loses everything. Lots of Glycerine ;)

Dude, this was really a nice reading.

What does idsklijnsma mean?

Tnx, Ids Klijnsma is my name btw, can’t help it. :P

Google… They newly create problems which never seen before! ;-)

I hope there will be alot of regular users again on your “site” !
